What year did you graduate from Burlington High School?

2015

Tell us about your accomplishments since graduating from BHS.

The accomplishment I am most proud of is being a staff member in the Burlington Community School District. I have just completed my first year in the district, and it was an incredible opportunity. I am eager to see what the future holds with the district.

As a high school student, I realized I was interested in being a teacher’s assistant; I am thrilled that I trusted my instincts and applied for the position. The new family I have created with my coworkers has been truly fulfilling, and I look forward to many more years of service in the school district. From student to teacher’s assistant, I am delighted to be a part of the Burlington School community.

During your time at BHS, did you have a favorite staff member who had a positive impact on you? Tell us about them.

While being a student at BHS, I had multiple teachers who I considered my “favorites.” The one teacher who impacted me the most would be Laci Johnson. She became my IEP teacher when I entered BHS and she was very kind and patient with me, and tried to explain to me things that I didn’t understand. I’m so thankful for her and I’m glad that I was able to meet her.

Do you have any advice for recent and future graduates?

Take a deep breath, let go of the small stuff, and step back to gaze at the bigger picture. Life can be tough at times, but don’t be too hard on yourself. We all make mistakes, and that’s how we learn and grow. Just because you’re an adult doesn’t mean you have all the answers; life is a journey, not a race. Take your time to savor the moments, smell the roses, and capture memories through pictures. Most importantly, be true to yourself, and you’ll be just fine.

How did your time at BHS impact your adult life?

My high school friendships are still a constant source of support, inspiration, and joy in my adult life, serving as a foundation for personal growth, professional networking, and lifelong memories that continue to shape my journey.
