When possible, transporting students for school purposes shall be done in a vehicle owned by the school district and driven by a school approved driver. Students may be transported in private vehicles for school purposes.
Individuals transporting students for school purposes in private vehicles must have the permission of the superintendent. Private vehicles will be used only when proof of insurance has been supplied to the administrator and when the parents of the students to be transported have given written permission to the administrator. The school district assumes no responsibility for students who ride in private vehicles for school purposes.
Private vehicles used to transport students must be insured for liability in the amounts of $100,000 per individual, $300,000 per accident, and $5,000 medical per individual. Some insurance companies also require a rider to the policy to cover use as a “school bus” if students are being transported.
When a private vehicle is approved for transporting students, the employee will be reimbursed at the rate established by the board for approved travel.
