Artistic expression is fundamental to a well-rounded education, fostering creativity, discipline, and collaboration among students.

Our comprehensive music and drama programs offer a rich tapestry of musical and theatrical experiences, catering to diverse interests and skill levels. With more than 12 ensembles and a growing drama program, we provide numerous opportunities for students to explore, develop, and showcase their talents.

Drama

Our Drama Department puts on two productions each year: a musical in the fall and a play in the spring. Productions for the 2023-24 school year were “Annie the Musical” and “Radium Girls.”

The upcoming fall musical will be “Wizard of Oz,” with tryouts to take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 3 & 4 at BHS.

The Drama Department puts on two summer camps each year, one for high school students and a Musical Theatre Camp for incoming fifth- through eighth-graders.

Those wishing to prep for musical auditions are encouraged to attend Audition Prep Camp from 8:30-11 a.m. July 15-19 at Sunnyside Elementary School. Any incoming BHS students may attend for free.

Music

In addition to music class at the elementary levels, here’s a snapshot of what we offer for music programming:

  • Orchestra: Available to fourth-12th grade students
  • Band: Available to grades 5-12
  • Choir: Available to grades 5-12
  • A Cappella: Available to grades 10-12
  • Jazz Band: Available to grades 7-12
  • Marching Band: Available to grades 7-12
  • Symphonic Band: Available to grades 11-12
  • Purple Aires & New Legacy: Available to grades 10-12

Students put on numerous performances throughout the year, and each spring, choirs, bands and orchestras from each grade level come together to put on the All City Orchestra, Festival of Bands and String Fling. These concerts give audiences delightful music experiences while showcasing the progression of student abilities as they advance through our music programs.

Students may delve deeper into their musical interests by pursuing any number of specialty music classes in high school, including percussion, brass and woodwind ensembles, treble choir and bass choir.
