The superintendent shall be responsible for recruiting personnel for the various positions within the district. The superintendent may make such use of other employees as the superintendent may so determine. The superintendent shall take affirmative action to encourage persons to apply in accordance with the district’s affirmative action plan. The superintendent shall use such methods, advertising media or other sources as may be appropriate to recruit personnel.

All applicants shall be required to complete an online employment application. All applicants must give written authorization to have a background check done at the time of hire and all employees must do so periodically throughout their employment as required under Iowa law; failure to do so will result in immediate withdrawal of employment offers or termination of employment. The district will perform criminal, child abuse, adult abuse, and sexual offender background checks on all persons offered employment in the district. These checks will be done every five years during employment based on teacher licensure renewal date for teachers, driver’s license renewal date for bus drivers, and hire date for all other employees.

Certified teachers who undergo BOEE renewal proceedings will have all three registries done; the District will do the criminal check. All offers of employment shall be subject to the district receiving, reviewing and finding satisfactory these background checks. Certified teachers who are hired as first year teachers with BOEE initial licenses will have all these background checks done by the BOEE and the District will not repeat them. All other teachers who are hired by the District will be required to provide fingerprint cards for submission to the FBI and all checks will be done.

Employment of all personnel shall be subject to board approval.
